1. Acceptance of Terms & Open-Source Nature
By downloading or using PetPal on Android or Nintendo 3DS, you agree to these Terms of Service. The source code for PetPal is licensed under the MIT License and is available on GitHub. These Terms govern your use of the official PetPal relay and account servers (teampetpal.com) and the compiled Android application distributed via Google Play. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. The "Passing" Service and User Conduct
PetPal uses a custom online relay to exchange pets and simulate "passing." To keep the community safe, you agree not to:
- Interfere with, disrupt, overload, or maliciously exploit the teampetpal.com servers.
- Transmit offensive, sexually explicit, hateful, or harassing content — including in pet names or other user-generated text — to other players.
- Use cheating tools, automated bots, or modified clients to spam the network or send malicious packets to other users.
- Attempt to de-anonymize, harass, or collect information about other players.

3. Accounts, Badges, and Moderation
When you first play online, PetPal assigns your pet a pseudonymous account ID (PP-XXXX-XXXX), and you are responsible for activity that occurs under it. Profile badges are cosmetic, are granted and removed at Team PetPal's sole discretion, and confer no ownership or other rights. We may suspend or permanently ban any Pet ID, device, or IP address from the network for violating these Terms, with or without notice. You may request deletion of your account record as described in our Privacy Policy.
4. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains the limited data we collect and how it is used. PetPal contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking.
5. Intellectual Property and Nintendo Disclaimer
PetPal is a free, open-source homebrew project developed by Team PetPal. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Nintendo. "Nintendo 3DS" and "StreetPass" are trademarks of Nintendo. All original game assets, procedural-generation algorithms, and audio are the property of Team PetPal, provided under the project's MIT License.
6. "As Is" Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
PetPal is provided "AS IS" without warranties of any kind. Team PetPal is not liable for any data loss (including lost pets, lost coins, or corrupted save files), server downtime, or device issues resulting from use of the game. We reserve the right to modify, update, or shut down the teampetpal.com servers at any time.
7. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as PetPal evolves. Changes take effect when posted here with a new "Last updated" date; continued use of the Service means you accept the revised Terms.
